Welcome to the May 2026 edition of The Forgotten Generations CIC Monthly Newsletter. Our mission is to highlight the stories, achievements, and events of African and Caribbean communities here in the UK and across the world. Thank you for joining us as we celebrate heritage, culture, and community progress.
Community Spotlight: Notable Achievements
Megan Thee Stallion: Featured as the cover star of Entrepreneur magazine, the artist and CEO shares how the values of her grandmother and great-grandmother shaped her multi-million dollar brand and work ethic.
The TFG Archive: To mark our 5th anniversary, we are building a formal newsletter archive to ensure the news we’ve collected are preserved for future generations.
Exhibition News: Following the success of the “Legacies of Windrush” exhibit, local museums continue to showcase oral histories that highlight the Caribbean contribution to British life.
News from Abroad
Health Sovereignty in Addis Ababa: The African Union and Africa CDC officially launched CPHIA 2026 this month. The initiative aims to move the continent from “health dependency to self-reliance,” focusing on African-led vaccine production and healthcare infrastructure.
UN Security Council Reform: AUC Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf reaffirmed Africa’s demand for two permanent seats and five non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council, stating that “Africa is not asking for a favour, but the correction of a historical injustice.”

Youth Corner
From Classroom to Boardroom (14 May): Join our online intergenerational conversation discussing how to dismantle teacher bias and curriculum gaps to improve outcomes for Black youth.
Achievement Awards: Nominations for the 21st Annual Dr John Roberts QC CBE Achievement Awards close on Friday 22 May. Schools are encouraged to nominate pupils of African and Caribbean descent.

Remembering Lenny McKnight: A Warm Farewell at St Margaret’s Church.
Invitation to RAF Veterans Small Island Show at Birmingham Repertory Theatre: Veterans from The Forgotten Generations CIC attended a production depicting the shared history of Caribbean and UK communities during World War II.
Usman Adewale “Oz” Alashe, MBE: He served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army before his successful transition into the private sector as the founder of the cybersecurity firm CybSafe.
The Lest We Forget: The Forgotten Generations exhibition, held at the RAF Museum Midlands from January 16 to May 4, 2026, successfully attracted 8,541 visitors. It highlighted the stories and service of diverse RAF veterans, including Prince Albert ‘Jake’ Jacob, Karen Kellar, and Kenneth Struan. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with visitors describing the exhibition as “brilliant,” “poignant,” and “inspiring.”
Heritage and History
This month we commemorate the Legacies of Windrush. The Legacies of Windrush in Cambridge exhibition remains open during May 2026. The exhibition shares oral histories and experiences from members of the Caribbean Windrush generation in Cambridge and celebrates their impact on local communities.
