Born on May 1, 1949, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Tony Wallace’s journey traversed humble beginnings, igniting a passion for journalism, activism, and community engagement. His journalistic odyssey began in the UK, where he ventured into news gathering and excelled in magazine and newspaper journalism. His editorial roles at South Magazine and the Third World Quarterly laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment to truth and investigative reporting.

Jamaica Record: A Fearless Pursuit of Truth

His return to Jamaica in 1988 marked an era of fearless journalism. Tony’s leadership at the Jamaica Record heralded an era of investigative reporting, calling out political mismanagement and advocating for the voiceless. His departure in 1992 marked the end of an influential era for the newspaper, underscoring the impact of his editorial prowess.

Educational Contributions and Innovation

Upon returning to the UK, Tony Wallace ventured into academia at City University London. His influence extended beyond journalism, pioneering new media and online journalism. He founded the NetMedia conference, a platform that revolutionised the understanding of the internet’s role in journalism.

Wizzie Wizzie Computer Coding Club (W2C3): Nurturing Future Innovators

In 2013, Tony collaborated with Dave Sutherland to establish the Wizzie Wizzie Computer Coding Club (W2C3). The initiative provided free coding classes to children, empowering them with coding skills and nurturing future tech leaders. His passion for education and technology set the stage for shaping young minds in computer science.

Legacy in Poetry and Community Service

Apart from his journalism and educational endeavours, Tony Wallace championed poetry through “Poetry for the Rest of Us (PORUS),” a platform where poets could share their works in an inclusive setting.
