Imagine serving your country at war and at the same time being considered as an inferior human being because of the colour of your skin. This meant that this gentleman would have had to prove his worth several times over to achieve the simplest things that others took or was given as a matter of rights. He was obviously an inspiring soldier to achieve the rank of a commissioned officer, and a naturally talented sportsman because of his success on the football pitch.
